Une enfance en Touraine pour Sophie. Des racines meusiennes pour Romuald. D\u00e9nominateur commun : une jeunesse \u00e0 la campagne. P\u00eache, jardinage, bricolage et premi\u00e8res vendanges pour Sophie. Chasse, apiculture, jardinage et for\u00eats pour Romuald.

\n\nDes \u00e9tudes qui les m\u00e8nent \u00e0 l\u2019urbanisme. Leurs chemins se croisent \u00e0 l’Agence d\u2019Urbanisme de Tours o\u00f9 Sophie est en stage, Romuald y arrive pour son service militaire. C’est le d\u00e9but d’une histoire commune, \u00e0 la maison comme au bureau !\n

\nEn 1998, ils s\u2019installent en Touraine pour de bon, dans un lieu que Max Ernst a immortalis\u00e9 dans son tableau Le Jardin de la France : l’\u00cele Saint-Martin \u00e0 Huismes.\n
\nIls seront \u00ab urbanistes des champs \u00bb pendant plus de 20 ans, arpentant des dizaines de communes rurales du Val de Loire, dont nombre de communes viticoles, et veillant \u00e0 pr\u00e9server leurs qualit\u00e9s paysag\u00e8re et patrimoniale de la pression de l\u2019urbanisation.\n

\nUn jour, l\u2019envie de profiter autrement de leur cadre de vie, entre Indre et Loire, se fait entendre ! Vivre au rythme des saisons, \u00eatre acteurs du paysage, en r\u00e9colter les fruits…\n
\nApr\u00e8s avoir cr\u00e9\u00e9 de toutes pi\u00e8ces leur agence d\u2019urbanisme, ils r\u00e9it\u00e8rent l\u2019exp\u00e9rience en donnant naissance au Chai de Th\u00e9l\u00e8me en 2020 :

\n\n– Achat d\u2019un corps de ferme \u00e0 l\u2019\u00cele Saint-Martin, qu\u2019ils transforment en un chai, un espace de d\u00e9gustation et un g\u00eete de 12 places,

\n\n– Constitution d\u2019un vignoble de 5 hectares, parcelle par parcelle, en achetant ici une vigne, l\u00e0 une prairie qui sera plant\u00e9e, l\u00e0 un taillis qui sera conserv\u00e9 pour constituer un environnement de travail o\u00f9 la biodiversit\u00e9 est reine,

\n\n– D\u00e9couverte pas \u00e0 pas du m\u00e9tier multi-facette de vigneron, de fa\u00e7on essentiellement autodidacte.\n

Si Le Chai de Th\u00e9l\u00e8me est install\u00e9 \u00e0 Huismes, au pays de Rabelais, le vignoble se partage entre le terroir d\u2019Azay-le-Rideau (communes de Rivarennes et Cheill\u00e9) et celui de Chinon (commune de Cravant-les-Coteaux).\n

\nSophie et Romuald sont persuad\u00e9s que le changement climatique redistribue les cartes : des sols argileux plut\u00f4t frais ont de l\u2019avenir pour la culture de la vigne.\n
\nIls ont tout de suite jet\u00e9 leur d\u00e9volu sur un petit coteau abandonn\u00e9 de la vall\u00e9e de l\u2019Indre, ch\u00e8re \u00e0 Balzac, sur la commune de Rivarennes, c\u00e9l\u00e8bre pour sa Poire Tap\u00e9e. Tous deux sont convaincus qu\u2019avec passion et abn\u00e9gation, on peut faire de bons vins sur des terroirs pourtant d\u00e9laiss\u00e9s au cours des derni\u00e8res d\u00e9cennies.\n

\nSophie et Romuald ne m\u00e9nagent pas leur peine pour remettre en \u00e9tat les vieilles vignes qui s\u2019y trouvent, les convertir en agriculture biologique, mais aussi d\u00e9fricher et replanter des parcelles, tout en conservant un \u00e9cosyst\u00e8me diversifi\u00e9.\n
\nLa diversit\u00e9, un mot-cl\u00e9 qui fa\u00e7onne l\u2019identit\u00e9 du Chai de Th\u00e9l\u00e8me.\n

\nDiversit\u00e9 des sols : l\u2019argile est le d\u00e9nominateur commun, mais si on est sur des argiles \u00e0 silex on parlera de Perruches ou de Cornuelles, et de Bournais perrucheux en pr\u00e9sence de limons caillouteux.\n

\nDiversit\u00e9 des c\u00e9pages : 8 c\u00e9pages sur 5 hectares (Chenin, C\u00f4t, Cabernet franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Gamay, Grolleau, Pineau d\u2019Aunis, 54-55 ou Seibel) et \u00e7a n\u2019est que le d\u00e9but car Sophie et Romuald souhaitent d\u00e9j\u00e0 en planter d\u2019autres, notamment des c\u00e9pages rares.\n
